Course Overview

As mentioned, fashion merchandising is broad and includes the entire business-side of fashion design, purchasing, and sales. Those in fashion merchandising must identify current fashion trends and figure out how to meet a particular market demand. This also includes figuring out price points and inventory needs to meet this demand. Others in fashion merchandising may focus on how to promote and sell the product. Fashion marketing is a more specific area of the fashion industry that focuses on identifying consumers and figuring out how to advertise to these target audiences. Those in fashion marketing may also help with price points, but primarily work to create brands, advertising campaigns, and other promotions. They may also examine fashion trends, but also use this information to develop the best advertisement strategy.

Course Objective

The course is designed to make students understand the basics of Marketing & Merchandising, why it is important, leading on to concepts related to the Fashion/Apparel Marketing Environment and the tools that are used to successfully market Fashion/Apparel products to a customer. How merchandising can make a difference to the potential customer and helps in decision-making. This course also helps familiarize the students with the fashion marketing & merchandising from a local perspective; how a fashion product is merchandised/marketed in a Pakistani industry. The overall aim is to enhance the ability of a student to analyze business decisions in the Fashion industry through a market and customer based approach. At the same time, it will strengthen their understanding of the fundamentals of Marketing & Merchandising as well.
