The Sustainability Summit 2023

Karachi, September 05, 2023: The Sustainability Summit 2023, organized by Greenwich University, was an initiative that aimed to highlight the need and importance of measures to promote sustainability. Held at Greenwich University in Karachi in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan, the initiative brought together stakeholders from various walks of life to one platform, encouraging them to come together and motivate others towards creating impact for a greener future. Under the theme of ‘Climate change and causes: Effects on environment and pathways to sustainability’, the summit brought to light insightful discussions with passionate students, guests and speakers in attendance. The program has placed a keen focus on environmental sustainability in line with the 2030 agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Enabling impactful conversations around climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, the summit provided the audience with meaningful insights in line with international climate agreements like the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. This collaborative effort emphasizes SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, along with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the significance of governance and means of implementation across all panels. The summit delved deeper into the transition from MDGs to SDGs while addressing critical policy issues at regional and global levels. Representing WWF-Pakistan at the event, Regional Head for Sindh and Balochistan, Mr Ghazi Salahuddin said, “The Sustainability Summit plays an important role in establishing and nurturing a deeper link between climate change advocates and students aspiring to become active changemakers of the present and the future. Through these conversations we can truly highlight the critical need of creating sustainable practices, greener communities and cleaner spaces to reduce loss of life on the planet. It is through our combined efforts that we will truly be able to create meaningful and sustainable change”. Key panel discussions at the event also emphasized on clean energy practices, enabling sustainable cities and communities, climate action, hunger eradication, safe and clean water and sanitation practices and focused on challenges and needs towards improvement of life below water and on land. Notable names who graced the event include Naveed Mughal from Student Provost at Greenwich University, Ms Fatima Khan Coordinator Climate and Energy Program WWF Pakistan, Dr. Khalid Waleed from SDPI, Anusha Fatima, Founder of Trash It, Farahnaz Zahidi from The Third Pole, celebrity activist Ayesha Omer, climate activist and visual artist Zulfikar Bhutto, Salman Tariq and Omar Ghaznavi from Davaam, and Kashif Abbas, Head of Marketing at My Water Pakistan. The Sustainability Summit 2023 organized by Greenwich University was presented in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan and FAHMEE PR, Events & Digital, with ticketing partner Ticketwala and radio partner FM 91.
